Step 1 of 10

Explorer

Discover who you are, what excites you, and where your journey could lead.

Welcome to the first step of your career and business journey in Japan. As an Explorer, your mission is to get curious — about yourself, the world around you, and the possibilities ahead. Before diving into work, freelancing, or launching a business, this is your chance to explore your interests, build self-awareness, and uncover the paths that truly excite you.

Through guided tasks, real conversations, and hands-on discovery, you'll begin shaping a vision for your future — one step at a time.

You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just need to start exploring.
What this step is about

Get curious before you choose a direction.

Explorer is about learning about yourself and the world of work before deciding what comes next. The focus is not on having the “right” answer. It is on collecting enough experience, information and self-awareness to make a better next decision.

What You Will Do

Explore yourself and the possibilities around you.

Your mission in this step is to learn about yourself and the world of work before choosing your next direction.

01
Reflect on your interests, strengths and values.Notice what you enjoy, what comes naturally to you and what matters enough to keep your attention.
02
Explore different career, study and business paths.Look beyond the options you already know and learn how different people actually work and live.
03
Have real conversations with people doing things that interest you.Ask about their work, choices, challenges and what they wish they had known earlier.
04
Try small experiences before making big commitments.Attend an event, volunteer, shadow someone, join a project, take a short course or experiment with a skill.
05
Choose one or two directions worth exploring further. You are not choosing your entire future. You are deciding what deserves your attention next.
Explorer Expectations

Think about what you expect from this step.

Before you move forward, take a moment to think about what you expect from yourself and from this journey.

Ask yourself 01

What do I hope to discover about myself during this step?

Interests, strengths, values, or direction?
Ask yourself 02

How open am I to trying new things or stepping outside my comfort zone?

What’s something I’m willing to explore even if I’m unsure?
Ask yourself 03

What does “progress” mean to me at this stage — and how will I recognize it?

New awareness? A new skill? Making a decision?
Progress Milestones

How you can know this step is complete.

Use this as a simple completion checklist. The goal is not perfection; it is enough exploration and reflection to make your next step more intentional.

I identified several interests, strengths or values that matter to me.I can describe what draws my attention and what I want to understand better.
I explored more than one possible career, study or business direction.I looked beyond my first idea and compared different possibilities.
I spoke with or learned from people whose work or path interested me.I collected real-world perspectives instead of relying only on assumptions.
I tried at least one small experience that exposed me to a new direction.I learned by doing, observing or participating.
I chose one or two areas I want to explore more deeply next.I have a clearer idea of what I want to learn or test in Step 2.
